The Appalachian Center for Craft is located on over 500 wooded
acres surrounded by Center Hill Lake near Smithville,
Tennessee. The facility exceeds 87,000 square feet of spacious
studios, design rooms, gallery and exhibition spaces, administrative
offices, a library, student housing, and a cafe. The
center provides free shuttle service for students to and from the
Craft Center and TTU's main campus.
Built in 1979, the Craft Center is a satellite campus of
Tennessee Tech University (main campus located in Cookeville).
The BFA degree is accredited by the National Association of Schools
of Art and Design (NASAD) and the Southern Association of Colleges
and Schools. In addition to the Fibers Department, the Craft
Center offers certificate studies in clay, glass, metals, and
wood.
The Craft Certificates are non-degree programs designed to
develop or enhance the professional skills necessary to embark on a
successful career in fiber arts. There are six artist residencies
available at the Craft Center. These are competitive positions
lasting a minimum of one year, allowing emerging professional
artists to live and further develop their work in the extraordinary
studio environment of the Craft Center.
