Contemporary Art Museum A new contemporary art museum has opened in the public park in Rome. The Museo Carlo Bilotti is housed in the former orangery of the Renaissance-era villa and contains a collection of artworks that Bilotti, an Italian-American cosmetics magnate and philanthropist, donated to the city. Overlooking an expanse of parkland dotted with plane trees and pines, the orangery - a pavilion built in the 17th century to shelter orange trees from the cold - has been renovated at the city's expense and is divided into two galleries. The upstairs is devoted to permanent exhibition of 18 works of modern masters. Downstairs is a large space for temporary shows. Born in southern Italy, Bilotti grew up in Rome but now lives primarily in Florida and New York. He maintains a strong connection to Italy. With this new museum, Bilotti wants to give young people a chance to see vital contemporary art - something he wished was available while he was growing up there in the 1950s.
