Boston's contemporary arts scene is on the move
Boston's contemporary arts scene is on the move. Among the most exciting new development plans is the design by New York architects Diller + Scofidio for a bold new museum of contemporary art on the city's windswept waterfront. Galleries in the new Institute of Contemporary Art will cantilever over the ocean, and a long stretch of harbor walk will sweep up dramatically to form the public grandstand of the glass-fronted facility. The new building will triple the ICA exhibition space and launch the museum's new role as a collecting institution when its doors open in 2006. And the ICA isn't the only hot new development on the arts scene here. A flourishing new arts district in a once-gritty section of the South End has also generated buzz, with almost two dozen galleries now located within a few blocks of one another, most of which have opened over the past few years. --------- to be continued
