Applying a protective sealer to your canvas carpet painting in order to make it durable.

Apply sealer to your canvas carpet painting

After decorating your canvas carpet, it is important to let the design dry thoroughly.  It may take a few days before you can move on to the sealing process.

Touch up or sharpen any area with appropriate color after you finish your design.  Allow your final touches to dry.  Then use a clean damp sponge to lightly wipe the entire surface.  This step allows you to clean off any dust or debris.

Apply the sealer according to the manufacturer's recommendations, using a synthetic bristle brush.  Proceed from one side to the other in long, smooth side-by-side strokes.  Brush out or blot up puddles with paper towels as necessary.

Repeat the sealing process at least twice at the underside and the topside at least four times.  Be sure to coat the edge.  Allow each coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next.  The sealer looks milky when wet; it will dry clear.

Your choices of sealers include polyurethane varnish and acrylic floor urethane varnish.  We used polyurethane varnish to seal our canvas carpet.  You can purchase this kind of sealer from your local hardware stores.  For the preparation and design of a canvas carpet, please check our Picture Making page.
