To sustain craft as a vital part of our world
With the emphasis always on creativity and
aspiration, Worcester Center for Crafts is the key driver for
innovative craft education initiatives, craft business support, and
craft market development in central New England.
The organization was founded by the
Worcester Employment Society which empowered immigrant women to
produce handcrafted wares such as lace, cloth, and metal ware that
were then sold to support their families. Today the craft
Center is a multifaceted arts organization focused on multiple media
including ceramics, glass, metals, fibers, wood, and photography.
In 1958 the Center relocated to its current
facility at 25 Sagamore Road. This building was built
expressly to meet the center's needs and until recently
accommodated all of its activities. The majority of the
Center's programs are conducted on these facilities, although
significant youth programming takes place at participating schools
in the region.
