To sustain craft as a vital part of our world
Students who come to the Worcester Center
for Crafts will find well-equipped studios in both surface design
and weaving. The Surface Design Studio currently offers
classes in beginner through advanced surface design techniques
including shibori, batik, screen printing, painted floor cloths, and
a variety of paste-resist methods. Class topics often include
discussions and examples of artists' and instructors' work, including
complex cloth, art quilts, and home furnishings.
The Weaving Studio offers traditional
beginner through advanced courses, all on 4-H and 8-H looms, plus
one 16-Harness Compu-dobby loom. Painted wrap and rag rug
classes are also offered.
Additional fiber classes are offered for
the creation of paper, bookmaking, felting, knitting, embellishment,
and basket making. Classes are offered in 1-day, 5-week, and
10-week formats and are available to all ages and abilities, youth
through adult students.
