Selecting a subject is the first step in
starting this project. Subjects such as landscape, still life,
portrait, abstract, and non-objective types can all be
accomplished with cotton chenille.
Developing a Chenille
The construction of this background chenille is the same
as the one we did before. There is a piece of muslin as our
foundation. Then, we
add two layers of osnaburg to the muslin.
The top layer was made of several small
pieces of cotton. At first, we lay out cotton pieces on the
top of osnaburg. After we feel happy with the design, we have to pin
them to the bottom layers.
Then, we sew them together with straight stitches 45
degrees along the grain of fabrics. The sewing and cutting
methods are the same as the one from last time. Please check Chenille
page for reference.
After the background chenille is made, we are ready to
create our scenes. As you can see from the above thumbnail, I added
some appliqués to the background chenille. These appliqués were
applied with the techniques of fabric
collage.
