After the background chenille is made, we are ready to create our scenes.

Selecting a subject is the first step in starting this project.  Subjects such as landscape, still life, portrait, abstract, and non-objective types can all be accomplished with cotton chenille.

Developing a Chenille

Your inspiration comes from a number of  sources- from life experience, photos, pictures, articles, music and so on--.  Look through the sources around you!  Is there a scene that evokes a strong response or a moment that was memorable for you?

After selecting a scene,  you have to enlarge and simplify it.  The key to do this is to choose a focal point of your scene.  Everything else in the scene will be placed so the eye of the viewer is brought back to this point.

Ask yourself of what is it about this scene that interest you most? This question sets the stage for your chenille.  Draw this  subject on your sketch paper.  Omit some details from your plan.  Draw only those details that are important to you and enhance your focal point.
