New Venues, New Vigor The Chicago art world gains momentum with gallery openings, an expanding museum, and a burgeoning scene of alternatives spaces. The city is changing tremendously. The art institute's expansion is among the developments changing the character of the Chicago art world. Most curators, critics, dealers, and artists agree that the city is in the process of revitalization, bolstering its institutions and galleries and making way for more experimental exhibition alternatives.A mile north of the Art institute is the Museum of Contemporary Art, which moved into its new building in 1996. The museum has won respect for bringing important shows to the city. Adding to the cultural landscape are more than 175 galleries spread throughout the city. They range from high-end enterprises to edgy new spaces in garages, storefronts, and apartments. ---- to be continued.
