New Venues, New Vigor More than half the city's galleries are clustered in two neighborhoods: the older and more established River North, home to about 65 galleries, and the newer west Loop Gate, which has expanded in the past two years to house approximately 25 galleries. A new development on the Chicago art scene is the host of galleries operated by young artists. Meanwhile, the Chicago artist group Temporary Services provides exhibition assistance to artist in a variety of creative forms. They rather than making objects themselves, they try to focus more on the social nexus that's around art and provide for whatever needs that demands, from giving advice and support to younger artists to work with older, more established artists to do work that's not commercially viable. There is a certain spirit in Chicago. The city offers artists, many just out of school, all sorts of opportunity to exhibit their work. If artists can't find a place to show their work, they just do something on their own.
