The BFA/BA program in fibers at Colorado State
University fosters artistic research and innovation in textile
forms, materials and traditions. The Department of Art offers
eleven concentrations in studio media, art education, and art
history.
Courses in weaving and surface design provide a
foundation in studio practices. Technical experimentation runs
parallel with the study of historic textiles and contemporary
art. Classes are comprised of students with varied and
overlapping interests in art, design, fashion or costume.
Upper level students exhibit in campus galleries, regional venues,
and national competitions.
The Visual Arts Building is a well-equipped complex
built in 1975. The undergraduate fibers wing occupies 3,400
square feet. A fabric printing and dyeing area, with adjacent
dye room, opens onto a shared court yard. Facing the
Rocky Mountain foothills, the weaving studio's 45 looms include a
variety of 4- to 16- harness floor looms and an upright tapestry
loom.
