A neighboring wing houses a computer lab with
weaving software, a Schacht Combby loom with computer interface, the
graduate fibers studio, and a wood shop. Students have access
to the Historic Costume and Textiles Collection in the nearby
Department of Design and Merchandising. Fort Collins is an
hour from Denver, Boulder and Rocky Mountain National Park.
Throughout the 60-credit program, graduate students
work with art historians and studio faculty to research and develop
thesis exhibitions. CSU's Critic and Artist Residency Series
promote dialogue with important figures in contemporary art.
In the last five years, twenty visiting speakers in fibers have
brought professional points-of-view from Australia, Guatemala,
India, Thailand, New Zealand and the US.
Internships are available. Students of Junior
standing or higher may compete for the Interweave Press Scholarship
in Fibers, and graduate students may be considered for a teaching
assistantship. The department of Art sponsors study abroad in
Italy during spring and summer terms. CSU alumni exhibit their
work nationally and internationally and teach in public and private
schools, universities and workshop programs Alumni also jury
and curate exhibitions, works as textile designers and
entrepreneurs, and are employed as editors and writers for national
fiber publications.
