Evenings for Educators

Once a month from September through April, hundreds of Los Angeles-area teachers gather at LACMA for an evening of art workshops led by local artists, gallery tour, a live performance, and the opportunity to share ideas with colleagues.  They are participating in Evenings for Educators, a professional development program for K-12 teachers and teachers-in-training , organized by LACMA's education department.

Each section is designed around an aspect of the permanent collection or special exhibition.  The program is intended to help teachers integrate art into their schools' curricula and to enhance existing art programs.  The evenings include workshops devoted to teach strategies or art-education theory, slide lectures presented by curators or art historians, and documentary film screenings.

Participants receive a resource packet containing slides, lesson plans, discussion questions, and background information to use in their classrooms.  Teachers in the LAUSD who join the program can apply to receive points toward salary increases.  Public and private school teachers can register to receive two university quarter units with the payment of a tuition fees.
