Fabric Collage 1
Fabric Collage 2

Below is a brief list of the materials I used for this landscape:
1. Two themed fabrics.  The size of background fabric should be larger than the size of your project.  The other small themed fabric needs to have some animal images.
2. A piece of green fabric.
3. A small portion of two-sided fusing web. (Check your local quilt store for fusing web and follow its instruction to pre-fuse your fabrics.                     by Sanchia Lin

As you can see from the thumbnail picture at the top, it is a very good themed fabric for the background of a landscape.  It has a scenery printed.  However, it looks too flat and boring.  I would like to make it more 3-D like.

At first, I went through my collection of fabrics.  I found some green scrapes of fabric and a piece of small themed fabric with elephant images.  I pre-fused the fusible web to the wrong side of both fabrics.  Then I cut the green fabric into some random shape snippets and scattered them to the bottom and middle parts of background fabric.

After that, I cut out two elephants from the small themed fabric and added them to my forest scenery.  I really like the way that came out so I stopped from there.  I enjoyed the process of making this fabric landscape.  It is fun and fast.  Now it is your turn!  Let me know how you like it.  Send me your feedback information or come chat with me!

Developing a Design
Sometimes, it is very easy to further develop your background fabric into a good design.  All you have to do is add some final touches to make the scenery meaningful to you.  However, there might be a time where your feelings just do  not speak to you.  If this happens, you might look into my suggestions as follows.

Hang your background fabric on the wall and look at it whenever you get the chance.  One day, something will come across your mind.  At that moment, you will be able to visualize and fit in everything you like to show on this fabric painting.  Never give up is the key to success!
