Felt scarf

Creating a piece of felt art requires minimal materials and tools.  All the supplies you need to begin are wool, water, dishwashing liquid, a piece of bubble wrap, a piece of cloth, and a flat work surface.

The path to create a piece of felt arts is the same as when you are making a scarf.  You have to lay out a design on the smooth side of bubble wrap, wet the wool and felt it.  Please review the page-Felt Scarf.  A good design is the key to success.

It is a good idea to draw the design on a piece of paper.  A simple layout is good for the first project.  The above one is a good example of felt work.  To view the full size of picture, please click on the above thumbnail, then use your web browser's "back" button to return to this page.

When you compose a design, you are in the process of organizing the elements of art, such as: line, color, shape, texture, and space.  Build your design on the different shapes, and pay attention to color shading, blending and color mixing.

There are several ways to lay out your design.  You can either fill the background, or lay out the image at the beginning.  Be sure to overlay all kinds of wools.  Otherwise, the wools will fall apart when you do the felting.

Don't worry about the outcome.  Try again if the first piece does not come out well.  After you gain an understanding of the materials and techniques in this medium, you will enjoy this felt making art very much.
