The mission of the Textile Program is to provide meaningful and
accessible education of the professional artist and designer in the
field of contemporary textiles.
Courses cover a broad scope of studio experience in textile art,
including Surface Design and Weaving. Studio experience is
supported by the history of textiles and contemporary art
criticism. While studying textiles as fine art or industrial
design, students develop technical proficiency and aesthetic
sensibility in the execution of art and design in fabric
form. The program's goal is to emphasize the development of
each student's individual potential, fostering an ethos of
integrity, commitment and innovation toward creative, life
enhancing, and meaningful pursuits in art and design.
Textile art's capacity to produce works for human environments,
linking handcraft with art, design, and technology, stimulates
students' creative imaginations. Students develop an extensive
portfolio of fabric, integrating personal expression and an
aesthetic tailored to individual choice and capacity in regard to
fashion, home furnishing or conceptual art.
