Preparing students with a solid foundation in textile
design
Hand processes, experimentation, critical
thinking, and research are emphasized. Students pursue
investigation in dye and resist, off-loom and on-loom woven
structures, 3-D fiber forms, and various printing methods that
include screen printing, monoprinting, digital printing, and
transfer printing.
Fiber students can also take classes across
campus within the department of textiles and clothing in areas such
as apparel design, textile science, pattern making, textile
conservation, museum studies, and computer-aided design.
Because of the interdisciplinary nature of the studio arts program,
fiber students often combine media and techniques from other studio
disciplines to create visual statements.
Located on the ground floor, the fiber
areas has a large naturally lit studio facility equipped for most
levels of woven and surface design. It also has its own
darkroom equipped with a stainless steel sink and sprayer, work
counter, screen storage, and a 48"x72" exposure table for
screen printing.
