Trends: A new presentation of European art

A new presentation of LACMA's collection of European art, now on display, showcases LACMA's new approach to presentation of art from its permanent collection, in which works from various media are arranged to engage the viewer to see them in new ways.

A highlight of the exhibition is a rare, eighteenth-century Spanish Pietà, on view for the first time.  Spanning two centuries of European art, Trends features several recent acquisitions, some not previously seen at the museum.  Seventeenth- and eighteenth-century paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, decorative arts, and a huge tapestry are combined in novel, thematic ways in this special installation

Decorative arts complement the paintings, sculptures, and works on paper in many of the galleries.  Paintings by three families of French artists are displayed together to reflect the traditional dynastic links of many artists.
