Developing Design and Color Expertise
Haywood was the first institution in the
country to integrate marketing and business into a craft
curriculum. Each student develops a marketing/business plan
that is realistic to his or her own needs. Classes in digital
photography and portfolio design help students refine and meet their
own personal/professional goals and learn to promote their own work.
The school is located near Ashville in
Haywood County , a rural agricultural setting with small
towns. The fiber studio houses equipment for weaving classes,
including computer dobby looms and rug looms. Students have
access to a dye studio and surface design area, sewing areas, a
photo studio, and a specialized computer lab.
The professional fiber program admits
students of all ages, with or without experience. Applicants
must have completed high school or the equivalent. There is no
portfolio requirement but a interview is necessary.
