Meet and learn from your fellow textile artists!

by Sanchia Lin

In addition to the national textile associations, your local quilt stores can be a good resource for your career development.   Each one of these shops often plans its own activities, and tries to make its facility and staffs the best in serving the needs of its customers.

In my neighborhood there are three quilt stores.  Each store has its unique design and personality.  For example, while one store is well equipped with quilt books and machines, the others are full of talented employees.  Visiting these stores has become some of my most enjoyable experiences.  Last year when I decided to have textile arts as a body of work for my solo exhibition, these stores became the places for me to meet and learn from the other fellow artists.

Each July, there is a Quilter Run in Southern California.  At that time, there will be special gifts and refreshment at the shops for each participant.  You can bring a friend or group.  Make a weekend of it and have a lot of fun.  Look in your yellow pages, you will be able to locate some of the stores in your area.  I am sure that your will have the same enjoyment as mine during your visiting.
