Course work in the College of Textiles emphasizes
lecture and lab work in textile technology, operations management,
textile chemistry, and computer technology in textiles and
apparel. The College offers capabilities in three-dimensional
body scanning, direct digital printing on fabric, computer-aided
design software for both knitted and woven fabrics and apparel
product development, CAD/CAM facilities for creating fabrics and
garments, a model manufacturing plant, studio space for design of
fabrics and garments, the Burlington Textiles Library, and an active
job placement service.
The combination of the two degrees provides a
unique and exemplary balance of technical and artistic skills,
broadening students employment and career opportunities.
Graduates may pursue careers as studio artist/craftsmen, industrial
textile designers, limited edition textile makers, or may apply
their skills to costuming, apparel design, interior design, museum
or gallery work, teaching, or business. Students not wishing
to enter the five-year dual degree program may still choose either
college's 4-year single degree program with the option of minoring
in the other College.
The University's Gallery of Art and Design
supports programs in both colleges by maintaining and expanding a
textile study collection, offering internships in textile mounting regular exhibitions of textiles.
