Paint shapes of color:

One of Jason's instructors, Mr. Lee Kim recently lent Jason a photo.  This photo reminded Jason of a theme in Palos Verdes Ranch, California.  Since then, Jason has decided to look for a different way to depict it.

While taking an oil painting workshop - Painting En Plein Air - Jason used the photo from Mr. Kim for the above painting.  Jason's instructor suggested to him to enlarge the photo, and then mounted it to a board.  By putting the larger picture in front of him, it made Jason feel like he was painting on location.

The challenge of this painting is to observe of its lights and its variety of green color.  Jason also had to train himself in covering his canvas as quickly as possible.  After loosely blocking in the major shapes, Jason stepped back and visualized his painting objectively.  More small shapes and various shades of green color were added to finalize it.
