Painting still life subjects
In addition to landscape paintings, Jason enjoys working with still life subjects.
He starts with simple themes and works up to more complicated ones.
Jason gathers objects that attracts him and arranges them on the canvas in relationship to each other.
Whenever he is painting the objects, Jason pays attention to color, values, edges, proportions, texture and composition.
Jason creates still life based on the subject matter, like the kitchen scene shown as the above thumbnail.
Through his study with Mr. Lee Kim, he has gained the disciplines in subtle color changes, reflected light, highlights, and dark accents that add vitality, variation and unity to his picture.
As his progresses, Jason sets up still life with objects that seem more difficult, for example, transparent reflective surfaces.
In order to give his painting surface variety, sometimes he uses a palette knife instead of a
paintbrush.
