Offering A Creative Atmosphere for Textile Artists
The annual Quilt Surface Design Symposium
has been critical to the art quilt movement since 1990, when it was
founded by Linda Fowler and Nancy Grow. Each year in June, the
Symposium provides education for those interested in exploring their
own potential in the fiber medium. The program offers not only
classes related to art quilts such as composition, dyeing, and
surface design classes, but also fiber workshops in subjects such as
felt-making and clothing.
Prominent teachers from many countries
present workshops at the two-week conferences. In previous
years, both teachers and students have traveled from as far away as
Australia and Japan. QSDS is committed to offering a creative
atmosphere where serious and intensive learning can occur in a
supportive and sharing environment. Both students and
instructors gather from around the globe for classes, lectures, and
exhibitions. QSDS has established a reputation as the workshop
venue for art quilt makers interested in developing their
careers. Many students return year after year to see old
friends and make new ones.
