At the graduate level, first year students are encouraged to
experiment with different approaches to studio practice, expanding
the conceptual basis for their work as well as enhancing their
technical knowledge. The second year builds on the first, with
a more focused exploration, culminating in a thesis show or
professional portfolio presentation. The graduate program is
designed to be flexible, accommodating students with diverse
backgrounds and career goals.
The fiber department has well-equipped weaving facilities,
including a variety of four- and eight-shaft floor looms,
AVL-Compu-Dobby looms, and an AVL electronic jacquard
handlooms. Fibers students have access to 28 CAD workstations
equipped with NedGraphics software for textile print design, dobby,
jacquard, and three-dimensional mapping of patterns. AVL
weaving software, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator are also
available. The department also offers equipment for screen
printing, machine embellishment, papermaking, and felting.
Studio spaces are available for graduate and senior students.
